Bought a new type 11 radiator to replace one in my house that has some dings and marks. Just wanted to know what this pictured black plastic at the back is. There’s 4 of them. But the radiator hangs on that metal but with the metal bracket. I’m wondering is this some sort of transportation protection. Does it stay on or get removed? Or is it holding the side grilles to the radiator?

Just look like transit pieces to me. They usually have something covering the hanging bracket.
Yep - exactly that - just to stop the end panels getting bent out of shape and act as a stand off piece for the brackets as it's a Type 11 and there's no back panel. As suggested, there's usually covers actually over the brackets to stop them getting flattened. They'll do the same job by the looks of it.
