We're currently staying in a cottage in the Peak District. This stupid heating system - Potterton combi and Owl intuition system is useless. No thermostat that you can turn up or down, the 'boost' button in the lounge doesn’t work which means going to the identical button in the boiler outhouse. On top of this, there’s a TRV in the same room as the controller which is fitted about 18” from the ceiling. It’s all controlled by the owner remotely and he says it’s set to what I wanted - a couple of hours in the morning and then 5-10.30 at night. Still useless. There’s a back up fan heater that only blows cold air and a log burner that will burn kindling but not logs! Never had any trouble with log burners but I’ve tried every combination of air vents with no luck. Totally ****ed off.

What’s the point of the owl intuition system - just meanness? Thinking of going home a day early and leaving the hot tap running!

Sounds to me like the owner is as tight as a ducks ar$e and is frightened some townies will cost him a few £ in heating for the week. If you're renting for the week, then should be able to have the heating as you want, if he's that worried, levy a separate charge for utilities.

That’s what I’m beginning to think but he’s going about it all the wrong way. Looking through the cottage information book, the heating is set to come on four times a day but no hint of what those times are! We go out, come back midday and it’s on so we open all windows and doors. There’s no shower (apart from a Victorian telephone style hand held one on the bath taps) and a freestanding bath. I’m a shower man but I’m having to run a big bath every night.

Sod it, the dog can have a go - I’m running a bath for her as I type!

Once had exactly the same frustration as you in a cottage in Norfolk where the owner had set things up and then somehow made it all non adjustable by the renter.
