What a "waste" or another case of deluded Thunbergian frenzy

Nothing to do with GT, just another story of Council incompetence and delay, maybe they are taking lessons from government.

And they're electric vans not refuse vehicles.

Blup

I'm not normally one to defend councils but this is just a stupid tabloid garbage story. They're 72-reg, so couldn't have been bought before 1st September 2022. So at the very most they're all of 4 months old.

The council have stated that there is an issue with the supply cables, which seems like a reasonable excuse and the sort of thing you often don't find out about until you start digging, as the records are often wrong. There are 14 of them, so to charge them all is going to need a pretty hefty supply.

If the council had delayed ordering them until the chargers had been installed there'd probably be an equivalent whiney article about all these unused chargers that the stupid council installed a couple of weeks ago that they don't have vans for.

There's still an ongoing supply shortage for all vans and cars, mainly due to the chip shortage. Ordering ahead was probably a sensible plan, if you ordered now then you may have a long wait. Besides, they have a custom built load area that would have been made to order.

Well some companies are looking at deep sea mining

Apparently the sea bed is littered with minerals and rare metals required to manufacture batteries ect to save the planet

Said on the radio the other day that making / producing a pint of beer has the the same carbon footprint as driving a diesel / petrol car 2 miles ??

Correct, I read it on a newspaper a few weeks ago.
Also, for those vegan cyclists saving the world, here is one for you:
You cycle to work and of course burn calories, so you need to eat more than the average driver.
That avocado that you're eating at your desk while feeling proud of not pollution your immediate vicinity, has contributed to global pollution as much as a diesel car travelling 100 miles.
Same for all other exotic greenery you eat.

The bikes produce CO2 emissions in other countries. Cars and all sorts of other things do as well. We report domestic reductions but those due to imports have not dropped by anywhere near as much - according to reports.

30 mins cycling is less than 200 calories. An avocado would be around 250 so that's fair.

The avocado results in about 200g of carbon, so it's closer to 200km.

Then again Avocado is one of the worst offenders for CO2 use, which is why Johnnys source chose it.

It's probably less if you use an E-Bike though.
