There's a lovely Ricky Gervais film called 'Cemetery Junction'. Cemetery Junction is a small part of Reading but in the film it becomes a small town. Ricky grew up in Reading and some say the film was semi autobiographical although Ricky denies this. It's set in the 70's and the main character, a teenager goes to work for an insurance company in order to better himself, This was accurate in that in the 70's in Reading 'Pearl Assurance' was a major employer, as was Huntley and Palmer and Suttons Seeds, all gone now replaced by high tech companies, basically Silicon Valley.
Anyway, I digress, one of my favourite lines from the film is where the lead character who's trying to better himself by working for the insurance company is playing a 'classical music' LP because he thinks that was what the better class of people listened to, when his friends walk into the room and say 'Oi, stop listening to this 'gay' sh1t and stick some Elton John on'.
Only Ricky Gervais could come up with a line like that.
