hi all
i have a long drive 16m x 4m that is concrete about 5 inch deep, can i break this up and whacker it down, sand then block paving or do i have to put the type 1 down ??

I'd say depends if you like weeds

with the type 1 because of the makeup of the material when whakkered it provides a sound even base which i think you will not achieve simply using concrete slab.

Can't you lay directly off the concrete slab using a sand and cement mix?
If you need to have a drop at the boundary line then cut back a section of the concrete slab say 4' (1200mm) strip and prep. lay say 4" of lean concrete mix and lay the paving slabs to the required fall, as previous.
