Our Combi Boiler had a fault and we had no hot water for showers or baths for several days.

I am thinking of changing it to a system boiler with a separate hot water cylinder and immersion heater.

If the system boiler failed and couldn't heat water for the radiators, would we still be able to draw off hot water for showers, baths and the kitchen sink ?

Provided the electric immersion heater has been wired up....and it's common to find it isn't.
If you go for a heat only boiler you give yourself the option of not being reliant on the boiler manufacturers pump/prv/expansion vessel ie. those parts are external and you're free to choose.
