MMy whole flat is kitted out wit 5 uggly 70's looking flat fire doors. I think the are important but They look awful. I have just fininshed decorating the bathroom and they really stand out now. I am also about to decorate the lounge and then things will look worse. I coud just paint hem all the same colour but because they are flat they will probably look silly. Can you butfake door panels to staick on. I could do it by cutting mouldings but that is a lot of work. If they do exist where do you get them from?

Thanks in advance

Hi
You can buy fire doors with a moulded surface to give a panelled effect, they should be available from large builder merchants or specialist door suppliers (yell.com), be prepared to pay for a good quality finish - and make sure they are certified.

If your flat is rented or not freehold check with the landlord, it may be classed as a structural alteration.

Thanks for your reply but I don't want to have to replace the doors. I am sure I once saw some rectangular panels that could be stuck on to a flat door. I can't find them anywhere on the net.

You can indeed buy stick-on mouldings that look like panels.

They are already made up in rectangles in various sizes, so you don't necessarily have any cutting to do, just a lot of careful measuring.

They are very self-adhesive, but can also be pinned to the surface in addition.

I can't find them on the net either, it seems that Focus sells them but they don't provide any info.

Thank you for looking. I went into Focus today but they don't have them.

I had the same problem in an old house - I bought wood strips that I literally stuck on the door - as they looked somewhat shabby I then pasted some wallpaper, wrapping paper or photographs in the space, which detracted from my shoddy diy. In the kitchen I painted it with blackboard paint and used it as a notice board.
