What can I use for back fill?

Hi guys,
Im building a retaining wall which needs to be back filled. I have various old bricks and breeze blocks. Ive recently ripped out the old shower ensuite so have chucked the basin and toilet in there. Is it ok to put the glass shower door and an old metal stepladder in there?
