Hi. I'm removing old paint off a plastered wall with a hot air gun. It's coming off nicely, but it is leaving behind a thin layer of old paint, a thin remnant of the first layer of paint the wall was first painted with.

I can remove most of this remnant paint using a rag and white spirit. I've done a small patch. Smells a lot, but after a day or two there is zero smell.

Is it acceptable to be using white spirit on the plastered wall? I don't want a problem to arise when it comes to wallpapering the wall. Thank you.

If you are wallpapering there was no need to take the old stuff off at all.
