Hi,

Just fitting internal doorframes etc in fitting out new extension. What depth of plaster should I allow for, is it approx 3mm for a skim over plasterboard and about 10mm for basecoast+skim on brick/blockwork?

Thanks,

Ants

It's usual to use 130mm door liners on 4" block or timber stud walls. This gives the plasterer 15mm each side for the base & finish coats.

But doesn't a stud / plasterboard wall only have a skim coat, not a basecoat, in which case surley 15mm is way to much for the doorframe to pretrude beyond the wall?

Thanks,

Anthony

A stud wall built with 4” (approx 97-98mm finished) timber will have 12.5mm plasterboard fixed each side; 98 + 25 for the PB = 123, leaving a total of around 7mm for the 2 skim coats. If you use 3” studs go for the thinner door liner but personally I prefer a beefier wall based around 4” studs.
