I'm changing the worktops in my kitchen. I'm not fitting anything expensive, just the chip board laminated type. It's likely to get wet around the sink area, and I intend siliconing around the underside lip of the new sink. But what is best to do with any cut edges, where the sink is cut out, the one behind the sink and any nearby 90 degree joints using those metal strips.

You can silicon, for cut outs I prefer foil tape as it is then quite obvious if you have missed any areas, it's also ideal above the dishwasher etc as it prevents steam damaging the underside. Some seal with varnish but then you are stuck waiting for it to dry, likewise the silicon.
