What does this mean? Pressure sensor fault/leak-off tests?

Hi I'm just hoping for some help understanding this please!

We've had the car in the garage for various (other) problems, but they mentioned a check had shown a fault code for the rear pressure sensor and I think he said it needed leak-off tests doing. But every time they phone the line is really bad so it was hard to understand exactly what this issue was (and when I picked the car up the mechanics had already gone and desk guy wasn't very good at explaining it either).

I really just want to understand what that means and what is likely to need doing, so we can decide a) how urgent it is (as it already needs several other things doing which are going to be £££), b) roughly what it should cost and c) whether it needs doing at the Ford place or can be done somewhere else (our local Ford place seems quite pricey).

Car is an '05 Mondeo Estate TDCi (2l diesel).

Thank you!

Oh dear... is it likely to be urgent then? Or can we leave it for a little bit until we've got over paying for all the other bits that need fixing?

Leak off is the term used for the diesel fuel that is supplied to the injectors, but not actually injected into the cylinders.....it 'leaks off' back to the fuel tank.
Look for a diesel injection specialist in your area - they will be able to do whats needed for you at a competitive price.
John :)

It drives OK but has had an occasional starting problem (which I posted about once before! - it makes a loud whirr but won't start until after several tries) and the only warning light coming on is the airbag light - which seems to be a problem with the front crash sensor so am going to have to get that fixed as well.

the fault code they mentioned may have been an old code that got logged and was never cleared. I would only authorise the work you originally wanted doing as they may be trying it on

Hm interesting! I was thinking of only getting them to do the airbag thing and maybe look at the starter motor initially, as we definitely need someone to look at that, so while it's there... But there were a whole list of other things they mentioned, and we can't afford to get them all done at once anyway. So maybe I will leave the pressure sensor thing for now and see if it gets picked up on at the next MOT (which will be somewhere else).

Thanks all of you for the many useful replies!
