What does VL and LI stand for on light switch terminals?

Help! We've just removed a dimmer switch to clean it, and forgot to note which way round the wires went .

The 2 terminals on the back of the switch have the letters VL and LI alongside, and we have one red and one black cable coming out of the wall.

Could anyone advise me what the letters stand for and which way round the cables go please?

Is this the only dimmer which controls the light(s)? If so, it doesn't matter which way round.
