What have I done?

Hi All
After getting home late from holiday I threw the cases in the airing cupboard for the night. Since then the only way we can get hot water is by using the immersion heater. The photos show what has happened, is there an easy way to fix this?

If the thermostat (white box) still works - as in the red light turns on/off when you rotate the dial, then:
Loosen the two small screws on the thermostat (the white box), put the thermostat sensors (the short black wires) into the hole marked 'thermostat', push the white box housing against the cylinder, tighten the two small screws to fix it in place.

Otherwise a new thermostat will be required.

I tried that but still not getting hot water?

Doesn't look like the thermostat has any display, so maybe it's knackered.
