What is the difference between hobs?

I'm looking for a new cooker but can anybody tell me what is the difference between Ceramic and Halogen hobs?. Also if one ring on a ceramic hob doesn't work do you have to replace the entire hob?

Ceramic hobs have a traditional (resistive) heating element under a ceramic top. Halogens have a halide surrounded element under a ceramic top. The latter is much quicker to heat up and cool down, making it more similar to a gas hob.

Thanks for the info. Can you tell me if the elements in a ceramic hob can be replaced singly or if one failed then you'd have to buy a whole new

hob?

Yes, they replace from underneath the hob individually.
