What is this?

Stripping wallpaper from the wall of a late 1920's house, found it was keeping the plaster up in the corner near the ceiling. Off came the plaster and underneath is this dark grey cement. Please don't tell me it's asbestos...

Why not post pics of the whole room or walls being stripped to give a context?

It looks like sand and cement - break a little off, and see if it crumbles like S&C?
