Hi everyone,

Newbie to the forum here.

I have noticed a fixed block of wood protruding from a floor in the interior corner of one of the bedrooms where I currently live. It is sticking vertically up from the floor and is pretty solid. Previous owners have decorated around it leading me to believe that it is maybe attached to the house frame - an additional stud support perhaps. Anyway, I'm just guessing and I really don't have any idea what it's function is or why it's there. Any ideas? Picture attached.

It's made up of several pieces so looks more like some kind of boxing in. Are there pipes running in that area? Boiler or tank cupboard nearby?

You can see where the screws are so if you're really curious you could probably remove the cover and have a look.

Ah, yea, I see the pieces now. I really should have looked at this in better light but I can see them now with the flash of the photo. Yes, the room is directly above the kitchen and on the other side of that wall is very close to where the boiler is situated so it's probably pipes. I'll maybe have a look inside.
