What kind of hinges/damper for this?

I'm trying to make the most of some space over my stairs, and have made some big shelves, and they are having a big mdf door on them, that opens as normal, and the shelves will have a notch out of the front of them to house a smallish loft ladder for access. But underneath that, there is a sloping bit, also with shelves in, and I need to put some kind of door that opens toward me, and swings downwards, that has some kind of damper, and maybe a catch to stop it opening on it's own and knocking me out. I've added some photos so you can see the set up. Any of it can be changed, but this is roughly where I want it to be, assuming I can find some suitable hinges and dampers.

I was also thinking of adding the hinges on the right or left and swinging it open that way, but that would need hinges that allow the door to move away from the wall when open. Unsure which way to go with it for the best.

The pull down door will be 12mm MR MDF and is 840mm x 940mm.

Has anyone done anything like this, which way did you go, and what hardware did you use? Thanks.

Not studdied your plans in detail but would piston hinges work that you use on kitchen wall units that open towards the ceiling. Also there are ones that do not operate as a hinge but keep the door vertical and it opens towards you and then up.
