What pipe?

Bit of pipe next to the just removed chimney now sticks out like a sore thumb. Is it likely to be gas?

Can the pipe be legally capped under a floorboard if it is?

it’s part of some general works. So it’ll be whatever the heating engineer recommends. I’d prefer the whole run, but I’m not going to do it or pay extra if the run involves more impact than the room being redone now
 
OP,
You show a "Fan Gas Isolator" - the fan lever is in the on position but, as above, the valve is capped.
You dont say, or know if the pipe is live - better not to have a gas pipe, live or redundant, below your floor.
Best practice is, as above, to isolate the line at its mains gas branch-off, & if possible to remove the Cu pipe.
Where is the gas meter in relation to the Fan gas isolator?
