I thought the 5th one (RH) was made by Peak not Scantronic, I've fitted a fair few and my memory of the maker is fading, one thing I do remember, is they used to tick like a loud clock when they detected lol

Taking this on a stage, WHY, do people mark detectors in this way?

Permanent marker for heavens sake. Seen it done everywhere you can think of.

Some of the worst are the use of 4, yes 4 numbers such as 1022 etc, WHY?

Install the ****** thing correctly & complete a correct Circuit List, there is no need for all this, - amateurs.

I know of one system installed doing this (1022etc) to 38, yes 38 x BlueLine detectors, in a house!

Surprise surprise, when the owner came back from holiday, went ballistic and the air turned blue.

They were all replaced.

If its a relatively small system and the person operating the system understands fully what the text descriptions means (even those which are abbreviated), then numbering is not required in my view

On larger systems where the above is not always the case and the attending engineer might never have been on site before, then numbering is warranted.

I used to use labels made by a DymoLable Printer (these had a company logo and the node/physical wired input number, or as you have seen, Branch, LIM, cct printed on them), these were imported into the printer programme as a .csv file and made light work of label production, and looked really professional.

(Claim to fame, with a microscope and a good wind, if you look at the header of the Fenwick door on page 20 above the BMR contacts, to might be able to make out one of the labels I'm going on about. http://www.safeguarddoors.co.uk/Downloads/Safeguard-Issue-6.pdf)

I agree that hand written numbering on devices looks naff and is something I would not do or have done.

I didn't see that, believe it or not, I'm actually going to the opticians to-day.

I agree on a domestic that numbering is a bit OTT.
Then again have one out there with 500 zones!!

On commercial it has been standard practise for detectors to be numbered with a Dynamo printer, I have the handheld one.
When I sub contract I am always asked to lable zones. Although in some panels I leave a USB stick with the programing, and PDF`s of the site on it, also with the bigger panels descriptors are better now.

I/we were one of the first to use self adhesive document wallets, years before the "ban on paperwork in panels" yet many do still leave paperwork in them.

On a domestic if you really wanted to label, why not do it on the inside of the detectors, okay you would have to lift the lids. But the info woiuld be there.
How many times have you gone to site and "found" no paperwork. Let alone a log book!

Dragging up my own old thread but hey ho.

Anyways , what pir's are these , which model, i know they gardtec and perform very very badly lol. :D

There's something wrong with that PIR - the light is supposed to go out.

If you cleaned them too zealously the lens pops in.

As i was taking the photo i tripped it , thats why the red light is on :D ,

and the 2nd one is completely dead

Any ideas what model they are?
Cheers MadMan

Most of the Gardtec PIRs came under the general "Gardscan" name, from the old 212 to the MX and Q passives. Not sure what particular model that unit is though!

I wonder if anybody can guess the manufacturer and model of any of these beasts?
