I'm getting a kitchen installed and I don't have my new floor in yet, so I have to let them know what spacing to leave for the floor.

If the counter is too low, then once my floor is in, I won't be able to get appliances in and out.

So I'm thinking about 18mm engineered flooring, but I know I'll need some sort of ply underneath this, but I don't know how big this would be.

Can someone give me a clue of what measurement I should tell the kitchen fitters to leave for clearance?

Would 18mm engineered floor + 18 mm ply/chipboard be enough, or are there other things I'm missing?

Who is doing the total flooring installation? That person can only work to designated flooring requirements and give depth and FFL measurements to whatever materials have been chosen.

You dont go thinking about what ifs or guessing the depth of materials - you know. You pre-select and have materials on site well in advance.

You are spending thousands of pounds and yet you want someone on an internet site to give you "a clue".

Is there any need for the sarcasm? I'm on a DIY forum - so that someone on the internet may have more of a clue than the hundreds of builders out there people are paying thousands to do cowboy jobs. Who do you trust? I'm asking advice - this won't be my only source of advice.

I've already given the depth of materials for the floor. 18mm engineered + 18mm chipboard, I was asking if there is anything i'm missing, or maybe i don't need 18mm chipboard - maybe 12mm will do.

What is there at the moment? As in what are you putting the ply/chipboard on top of?

I've had nu-heat specify an underfloor heating system for me, but all of that happens under the floor boards.

I have a suspended timber floor, and currently all that is down is the original floorboards, which are in varying condition around the property.

nu-heat specified that I need to layout a moisture resistant chipboard on top of the system, although from the spec it looks like they are discarding the floorboards. I've only just noticed this, so need to get in touch with them:
