In relation to a recent post, my f/standing double oven + hob are being replaced with a single oven and high power hob.

The cooker circuit is run from a 40A MCB, the cabling looks heavy duty, however, I'm not certain what size it is so was wondering if anyone here could please tell me.

On the cabling it is marked with: 078/001 Baseo BS 6004
Further along on the other side of the cable is I presume the manufacturer: Paxman 42

Thought I'd ask here first rather than disconnect the existing cooker.

Thanks.
Stuart.

Its usually 6mm T&E. Look at the Spec on your new equipment and look for the load in "KW" and post back please.

I'm quite certain it's 6mm now, but will report the appliance ratings when I get back.

Can you post a photo of the cable?
Is the earth wire solid or stranded?

Will get a photo later with a tape measure for scale.

Earth is solid core.

I'm thinking of putting a 2.8kw single oven and 5.9kw hob on the cooker radial... is that going to overload it?

How about connecting the oven to the ring main and using the 40a for the hob?

Cheers,
Stu.

edit: The cooker cable is not buried or hidden in conduit, it comes up from the floor near the wall where I'll be clipping it behind the kitchen cabinets.
