What stain for this wood?

I am renovating the exterior of my 1907 property. The wood has not been stained in countless years, so I want to rectify that. You can see from the photos the dark colour at the top of the wooden post in the first image, and how the other post has gotten much lighter.

What stain would you recommend for these posts, window frames and wooden tiles? Not sure on the type or colour to use to match the existing.

Probably a dark oak but needs lots of prep first .

For the posts, I am assuming you need to sand it a little before putting the stain on? What about the wooden tiles that have gone pale, do I need to sand those too?

I would use oil on the roof shingles .
