Hi all,

I'm currently having my loft converted. The joiner has made my new stairs from idigbo wood. This is to be stained in a walnut colour to match my walnut doors in my house.

Has anyone got any experiance of staining idigbo wood? Does it need sealing? Does it stain up like pine or oak wood would?

My decorator will be doing the staining but I wanted some background information on staining idigbo as the decorator hasnt heard of the wood before.

Many thanks all.

Do you mean stain or dye?, always best to just test a sample first to ensure a good match.

Whats the difference between stain and dye (sorry for my ignorance)

I've got some off cuts that the decorator can practice on.

Thanks for the reply.

Dye simply changes the colour and can penetrate the wood so damage is less evident.Woodstain sits on the surface and colours and protects the wood.
