Hi

We are keen to stain an unfinished Pine table with a strong wood stain colour for use in our lounge.

The only stains we can find in a good range of colours are the Cuprinol Garden Shades range.

The only issue is they claim to be external only. Does anyone know why and what the dangers of using an external wood stain like this on wood in the home are? If you can stain the inside of your summerhouse with it I don't understand why it is unsafe for interior use.

Could any dangers be mitigated by varnishing over the wood stain?

If it is unsafe does anyone know of where you can get wood stains for internal use in a good range of colours?

Thanks

Joe.

Unsuitable for a table, will wear quickly, a dye and then danish oil is more suitable, complete range of colours available in dyes.

Thanks foxhole for your quick reply. It sounds like dye is the way to go. If I can't find a colour we like do you know any reason why it would be dangerous to go for the Cuprinol indoors?

Not dangerous, dye range exceeds most other colour ranges so you should find one, and you can mix them to make your own choice.

there are some really good water based wood stains and water based wood dyes on the market that are ideal for interior furniture.

Once stained you can overcoat with a clear hard wax oil or varnish to finish the job.

Some of the exterior finishes with colour contain biocides and other wood preservative agents that aren't suitable for interior use.
