help appreciated..

have a "rough" textured ceiling with a smooth new plaster strip straight through it in hallway upstairs - runs along 2/3rds. (took out a 70s beautiful floor to ceiling safety glass bannister... )

is there any gunk that i can paint over to create a new rough textured - or smooth for that matter, ceiling (paint on top if poss, don't mind) - less chemicals the better? don't particularly want to scrape the white rough stuff off the ceiling if i don't have to. can see it being a pretty awful job.

any help appreciated! ceiling's about 1m x 4.5 m

I've never seen it matched well yet. Scrape and skim.

I go along with Joe. Impossible to match, and will always be noticeable.

Roughcaster.
