Hi,

This is the state of my Kitchen floor.. half the finish has worn away so I was thinking about sanding it and refinishing this weekend..

However, I am confused at all the advice on the net.. Some say sand and refinish, some say just scrub it down and refinish and this will keep it's character as the boards look like there probably original (1870's)..

I just wanted to open this up to the forum and get peoples advice on what you would do??

also there are quite a few gaps between the floorboards of differing width I have heard many ways of filling these gaps.. first would you bother and second how would you do it??

Finally, what finish, how many coats.. etc..

Cheers

Try scrub cleaning it first, allow it to dry and ask yourself whether you like it or not.
Being of that age, the flooring will be thicker on the upper face than today's equivalent, this was to allow for removal of the worn/dirty surface down to clean wood, the choice is yours.
Sealing is by any propriety floor varnish or resins...pinenot :)
