Hello,

We noticed this area here is leaking water when toilet is flushed. It looks rusty and corroded and wondering what could be the issue and what could be the solution and what tradesman is the correct one for this issue?

Please see photos.

Thanks all

Plumber.
General builder.
Handyman.

Plumber would be best option.

Thanks.

What does it look like needs to be done (just add silicone) and what does it look like seems to be the problem?
Costs perhaps estimate?

It's probably the rubber collar that's slipped. Probably just need to take the saddle clamp off move the collar, clean it all up and reset the joint.

As suggested, a good handyman or plumber should have that sorted in no time.

Thanks. Got a plumber coming tomorrow and he said he probably needs to replace the whole flem where it bends. He said he has to see it first to decide what parts he needs. He said they do plastic or rubber ones now that don't corrode that he can use. He said he has a £60.00 call out charge. I have used him before and he's pretty reliable and pretty good so maybe that sounds right.

So has he given you a quote? He has seen the picture.

Does the £60 include 1 hour labour?

Andy

I spoke to halifax emergency and they said they don't cover it as pipes outside but call halifax building and contents insurance and they maybe able to help? Anyone happen to know if this is true.?

Thanks.

Yes he's even seen a video so more than a photo.
He said £60.00 is just a call out charge to find out what is wrong and what parts he needs to order. He said he can't give me a quote or even an estimate until he has seen it.

£60 just to take a look?

Then, extra for parts and labour?

Blimey.....

Thabks. Had 2 more quotes. One who just said about £120 and the other who says

"Our costs to carry out this repair would be £145 + vat this is to replace the defective coupling , we would not recommend the fitting you sent me the link for to be used on Cast iron"

I spoke to halifax emergency and they said they don't cover it as pipes outside but call halifax building and contents insurance and they maybe able to help? Anyone happen to know if this is true.?

Why would you expect household insurance, be expected to cover normal repairs and maintenance of your property?

Looks like a 'Timesaver' coupling that's failed, although I'm sure sure how successful they would be on plastic in the first place. Flexseal coupling would do the job, looks easily accessible so shouldn't be too difficult.

My biggest concern would be condition of cast inside the existing joint, if that's rotten then you'll struggle to get anything to seal, best bet then would be to replace pipework back to the Pan.
