Hi

I am using Sleepers to edge my path, and to build a step.

I want to know the best way to attached, secure the sleepers to the ground.

So do I use a mortar mix, like I will be with the paving that sits inside the sleepers (on compacted Type 1), or do I use a 'concrete' type mix with gravel, as you would with a foundation?

It will honestly get little use, and have to deal with not alot of weight.

Some help with mixes etc would be greatly appreciated. :0)

Have a look on the pavingexpert site. Search for 'sleepers'.

you can bed the sleepers on a very weak concrete mix something like 6 stone 4 sand 1 cement.

Assuming its only 1 sleeper high your main consideration is to stop them moving laterally or possibly tipping over if your laying them on the smaller edge.

A few 2 inch stakes hammered into the ground and then screw through the sleeper into the stakes would be sufficient or another common option is a metal rod (often rebar) hammered through them into the ground/concrete foundation. I find this a bit of a faff and use screws and stakes personally.
