Not paint. It is outdoors and will get wet. Paint will seal the water in which accelerates rot.

Use a breathing outdoor woodstain.

Fence stains are the cheapest but need frequent recoating as the waxy surface film weathers away.

Decking stain is more durable, I suppose because it is designed to be walked on.

There are garden shades at higher cost.

The Bench needs the best finish so it does not rub off on clothes, or leave splinters.

If you can lay your hands on a jetwasher, it will blast away the dirt, mould, old paint and perished surface. Let it dry before recoating. The bench may need smoothing with sandpaper.

The ironmongery on the bench needs attention as it is rusting in areas. The rust needs to be wirebrushed back to clean metal and then applying some specialist rust beating primer paint would be good before applying the top coat. The ironmongery will likely be cast iron, so look for paints suited to that metal.

I did a length of 5-year-old (thus weathered) fencing last year with Sikkens HLS followed by their Filter 7 - one coat of each - because I happened to have quantities of both lying unused. Great results, but probably too expensive for many people to consider.
