Ladies and Gents,

First-born has a Seat Leon FR, 2014.

It is on low-profile tyres.

What wheel size / stud pattern etc would I need to look for, to get another set of "normal" profile wheel/tyre set?
(We live near a lot of lanes, and the potholes are tyre and suspension killers on low profiles).

Sorry if you also need current tyre sizings etc, as I don't have them to hand (car is in for service and MOT, so it might not be back for a week or so).

Use this tyre calculator and put in your current tyre size.

Then get whatever wheels you fancy from the VW/Audi range in the rim size you prefer.

You may find some useful information at Oponeo.co.uk
They deal with steel wheels generally but they do list offsets and so on.

Remember to inform the insurance company of the changes though. If, by any chance, he has the car's EU "Certificate of Conformity" anywhere, it's likely to list the various wheel and tyre options that the car was type approved with.

Look on the tyre pressure sticker either inside one of the door pillars, on the door shut or behind the fuel cap. That may tell you the pressures for tyres and wheel sizes that could be fitted on that car. Might look something like this :

What does the handbook quote?
Initial guess is it's the same size wheels as a golf of the same era.

I don't know: it's my first-born's car, and is currently in the garage for service, repairs, and MOT.

Reason I ask is that - before he sodded off abroad - he'd been going through low profiles with alarming regularity.
Then, when I took the car to the garage yesterday (first and only time I have driven it), there was a loud knocking noise from the near side.
My guess would be that he'd hit another pothole, and broken a spring or summat.

Swapping to a more sensible profile would likely work out better in the long run.....................

Without doubt, it will preserve the rims from damage to a greater extent, but the car's turn-in and general handling won't be quite so sharp. I don't know if wear will change much. Were the tyres evenly worn? Assuming it's not tracked up like a banana, the wear will just be down to driving style and quality of tyre. Some of the cheaper ones get decent grip by virtue of using a very soft compound so they don't last long, particularly if driven "enthusiastically".

They never get worn; he hits a pothole, and they're done. No second chances.

Gosh! I knew the roads were bad, but that's some going! I've been driving a bloody heavy EV around on 40-profile tyres for the last 50,0000 miles and I haven't managed to trash a tyre on a pothole yet! (Worn a few out, mind...) ;)
