Hi guys,

been a few years since I've been on the forum. The alarm has been faultless since installation (with loads of help from the the forum) and I thought I would bring the system up to date.

I actually purchased the COMWIFI a last september 2017 but only have just got around to fitting it.

I have noticed since then, a newer module called the CONNECT has been released.

So my question is, does the CONNECT do anything the COMWIFI cannot?

From my googling on the matter, I need to update my firmware to V4 so I can generate a code to let me register on the CONNECT mobile APP.

Can I generate the code with the COMWIFI when flashed to V4 or will it only work with the CONNECT module only?

Thanks

Al.

ComWifi is not that good and tottaly different. flash your panel to V4 and get a SmartCom to use the connect platform, much better app interface and more reliable notifications.

V4 gets the app code from the connect server via the SmartCom, the ComWifi will not generate an app code nor will it work on the connect platform.

Texecom have stopped manufacturer of the comwifi ,wont belong before they stop support of the first attempt at a failed app.
You would be better of flashing your panel to v4 and getting a smartcom.
This app is still not great and has it's teething problems.

had very few problems wit the comwifi with a good signal, but the way the old app and the panel interacted didn't help.

The smart com has com wifi and Ethernet cable, the wifi side of things can be a pain especially if you change ISP.

The new Texecom Connect app is probably simpler to use than the old one, I have customers using the comwifi and the old app, seen an improvement on how the old app operates, ie notifications improved in reliability for android (ios weren't bad to start with), along with now see a full list of notifications compared to just the latest notification on the old app for the android device, was never an issue for ios.

Going forward the smart com / smart hub(when released) is the way it will be going, at least issues with the Texecom connect app seem to be looked at much more rapidly than that of the old app.

Be aware that if you have ricochet you will need to have certain version of expander for the smart plugs to work properly etc, see Texecom for more information on compatibility specifics.

Thanks for the informative replies..
Looks like I spent money on something obsolete....

I think I will wait for the smart hub than spend the money on the current Connect.

Out of curiosity, which mobile App (if any) should I be using with the COMWIFI?

Al.

Flog it on eBay... then do the same with the SmartCom.

ComWifi works with the original Texecom app or Engineer app only. SmartCom works with previous apps and the new Connect app.

originally there was the smart key, keypad and engineers app and all were chargeable. Then became free.

The smart com has two connections, smatcom, and comip, one for coms and one for connecting to the panel., the comip and comwifi with the old app only had the one connection unless you had two devices. one for coms and one for connection.

the old app connects to the comp unit or comwifi, if youonly have one unit then then when the panel is sending out a message you couldnt use the app to connect to the panel.

So what APP if any, is working now with my comwifi (other than wintex via computer)?

I tried the keypad app and it won't let me login with my details (username and password, as set on the alarm system).

Any ideas?

Al.

Do you have a link for this info? I purchased a 32 zone ricochet expander for my elite 24. Was planning to upgrade my com WiFi to smartconnect. II want to add a few pir and door contacts to existing wired system. What do I need to check for compatibility?

good yes, Texecom don't provide firmware updates to wireless expanders and you would need an expensive specialist flasher I believe if they did.
