The freezer has started to get ice form on the vertical rear surface, which has been getting more and more over the past few weeks - I chip it off but it seems to be coming back faster. The latest bit was quite a lot and stuck all the drawers.

So should I be checking anything in particular, or is it terminal?

The fan and motor seem to be coming on as usual, so there is otherwise no indication of something not working

defrost heater faulty - can be tested but complex

defrost limit switch faulty - complex

drain clogged - defrost fully & clean the defrost drain tray

try the latter in hope thats the one

I had that

you have to turn it off and open the door for a good 24 hours as there are pipes and channels behind the lining at the back, you have to melt and drain out all the blockages or your work will be wasted.

Pull it out and clean the drip tray at the back, and verify the drainage pipes are clear of blockages, mould, bits of food debris as well as ice
