The plastic in question is a licence plate- now this is likely the only plastic I will ever be drilling so ideally I don't want to buy new drill bits..

I currently have metal, wood and masonry bits. Which of these would be best? Thanks for any advice

Use a normal HSS drill bit for steel. When drilling number plates, it's usually best to drill from the back, but clamp it down onto some timber first!
Use a small bit, then work up to the size you need.....practice on the old plate if you have it.
John :)
