Whats the definitive book on DIY?

Can anyone here tell me where to find the best ever book on DIY/ building/ plumbing/electrics etc.

What I mean is the most respected publication, cost irrelevant, something even the trade think is useful BUT written for Joe Public who is handy but lacks the basic technical knowledge.

In my trade, I am embarrassed to read the so called books written by "experts" and IMHO they are written to sell books rather than impart useful knowledge.

Any titles out there???

I found this book quite good when I started doing up our first house 10+years ago. I guess it has been updated now though.

However I'm sure that one book does not hold all the answers and so several books may be better. Eg the Which Wiring & lighting http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/0852028172/ref=pd_null_recs_b/026-8157049-2184464 and there must be ones on plumbing etc. As they can give a more in depth information rather than an "encyclopieadia" of Building & DIY[/quote]

Readers Digest New DIY Manual 1987 !! its probably not legal they put an extra page in on telephone extensions as it was now legal to install your own!
