what's your opinion around plasterboarding an open extension in November?

we're at the final stages of our extension shell, so we have the walls and the roof ready. there's a 3.6m opening for a bifold, no bifold yet.

what is the general opinion on plastering the internal walls without weatherproofing the extension first? I can imagine any plaster/skim will dry quicker, but is there a risk it will get damaged? would it help if I only pasterboarded part of the walls next to the opening, to not have a corner that's exposed to rain?

What weatherproofing are you waiting on? If it's only bifold then sheet over it from the outside and carry on- biggest risk under those circs would be an early frost. If it's the roof that isn't watertight then boarding would be very silly never mind plastering

obviously without a bifold, it can rain inside, cold/damp gets in etc, that's what I mean by weatherproofing. it's basically an external space surrounded by walls and covered by a roof.

I take it from your words that as long as I cover the gap with something (e.g. plywood), I can start plastering before the bifold is in, would that be correct?

I would wait until doors in and all weather tight.

Ideally you wouldn't do the plasterboard before the place is weatherproof- if it's already boarded then yes you need to get something rainproof over that opening straight away. If it's not already boarded then the low risk method is wait til the bifold is in then board & skim

You could set the corned beads in place around the opening but not plaster the reveals.

the rest should be fine if you can keep it from rain
