It is my understanding that if you have an aluminium heat exchanger in your boiler and you do a load of solder joints, you then have to bung in a neutraliser to kill the flux residues or they'll corrode a hole in the ally................but how many joints do you have to do before you must use the jollop?

These days most joints are press it with a special tool so no solder but a neutraliser prob wouldn't be needed but always put in inhibitor to protect your system and for peace of mind if you want use a neutraliser.Bob

Oilboffin, you are probably correct but I am confused.
What joints are pressed
Almost all connections I see are either o ringed and clipped or union with Fasit seal
As said, you possibly referring to something else

They are pressed with a tool that crushes the fitting onto the pipe they are good for twenty odd years.Bob

1. A lot of new build's are either plastic push fit, or press fit with special tools.
2. The majority of existing systems are predominantly soldered copper, often with some compression fittings.
3. If soldered by fluxing the pipe, not the fittings, and being careful not to over flux or get the flux inside the pipe, there should be little or no flux left in the pipework.
4. A flush through with water, preferably hot, should remove all traces of flux.
5. Add an inhibitor such as Fernox F1 or Sentinel X100 to reduce oxygen damage / corrosion to inside of mild steel radiators.
