We need a plan Z, austerity doesn't work, we need to vote labour back in to halt this destructive austerity drive!

2008 Total Spending = £582 billion

Public Pensions £99 billion
National Health Care + £102 billion
State Education + £79 billion
Defence + £38 billion
Social Security + £90 billion
State Protection + £31 billion
Transport + £20 billion
General Government + £17 billion
Other Public Services + £49 billion
Public Sector Interest + £31 billion

2012 Total Spending= £695 billion

Public Pensions £127 billion
National Health Care + £121 billion
State Education + £92 billion
Defence + £46 billion
Social Security + £116 billion
State Protection + £32 billion
Transport + £20 billion
General Government + £17 billion
Other Public Services + £46 billion
Public Sector Interest + £47 billion

So spending has went up according to those figures.
Where exactly are the cuts?

The country's position is buggered because of the economic mis-management of the last LABOUR government. We're still feeling the hangover of tony and gordon's spending spree that was mostly carried out using borrowed money!!

It'll take years to fix, and it will be painful. Social security, nhs and debt servicing costs are too high, but the necessary changes cause a massive backlash with voters.

IMO it's unfortunate that everyone gets a vote, including stupid people, welfare sponges and those who will only vote for a particular party because their parents did.

Because of this labour will probably get back into power at the next election...and then this nation will be truely buggered!!

YOU CAN'T SPEND MONEY YOU DON'T HAVE, which is exactly what labour want to do

So true. I'd include public servants. Their there to serve the public, not vote in the party who will give them the biggest pay check.

Personally I probably wouldn't go quite that far, but I feel that you should have to contribute to society and earn your vote. (I.e. pay enough tax and then you get a vote).

It's not going to make a difference. Country is stuffed, we owe too much money and we are making less every year to pay it off. It will end in violence and a return to a standard of living that we have not known for a very long time. The public sector is a millstone around our neck and it's going to take us down.

Only solution is to move to a country with loadsamoney and little debt. The only place in Europe that really fits the bill is Norway and we are well on the way to retiring there.

When the house of cards collapses it won't make any difference where you go. Norwegians won't want you anyway.

So the credit crunch is down to Labour ? I suppose Greece is down to Labour too. And Spain ? Italy ?

Look at interest rates under the last tory govt. !5%. Then you had Norman Lamont and The cheating, untrustworthy, John Major forever babbling on about seeing green shoots. That of course never came and they were duly booted out of office for a long long time.
But it's all changed now huh ? The tories are gonna get it right huh ? They laid out their stall at the very first opportunity they got. The budget. Where they cut 5% off of income tax for people earning serious amounts of money. Like their need is greater.
You people make me laugh when you carry on with the tory propaganda. When labour came to power the country was already in some debt.
While shadow chancellor there was more than a whiff of scandal regarding osbourne and Russian oligarchs and secret meetings on boats. What do you suppose that was about ?

This govt is corrupt. Doesn't that matter to you ? CORRUPT !

For £250,000 i could have asked Cameron a question. That my little moaners and groaners is corruption. You all ok with that ? I wonder what else you got for the money ? Tea at parliment ? A leg up in business ?

Corruption is never far away from the Tories is it ? Cash for questions anyone ? Are you lot that are singing the praises of tory scumbags gonna say that thats ok ? We dont know the half of it.
Rebeka Brooks A text a day. Oh heres an ex police horse xx. Could've given that to one of them disabled riding schools really...dont you think ?
Andy Coulson. Murdoch. Its all too sleazy for words and yet people will stiill hammer into Labour.
I hate the Tories with such a passion. They are slimy sleazy creepy little pink handed rich boys. But you lot love em.....ha.

Funny old world

What you say about the Tory party is reasonable but they are the best party to look after the economy and always have been.

Labour just know how to spend other peoples money.

Problem is successive electorate in west have voted for the good times without any intention of paying the cash back. offload the problem to their children.

Labour was final big party and what a blow out it was.

Should all be jailed or even lined up against wall.

it started in the 70's when we realised we couldnt compete industrially, there was no credible follow up plan, north sea oil revenues were wasted on a lost generation, huge areas of the country have no credible industry, this remains true today. successive governments have tried to conceal this by inventing jobs (public sector) and latterly by the labour party by pumping vast amounts of money into the an utterly illusional housing market.

financial services, will never be the solution, money is something that comes off the back of a real economy. We have to think of a way which we can produce stuff that the rest of the world wants. My guess is it will have to be things like high quality engineering, research and IP, we will never be an industrial nation again, we cannot compete on scale of economy.

These are very painful things to address and are not politically "cool" where short termism is the order of the day.

We live in interesting times.

Corruption is never far away from the Tories is it ?

Corruption and politics run hand in hand. Irrespective of political alliance.
Labour were (and probably still are) just as corrupt. You only have to look at Mandelson. Kicked out of parliament not once, but twice. Then offered a plum job. But wait. he wasn't elected, Nah they gave him a peerage.

So the credit crunch is down to Labour ? Funny old world
caneyeB raising those points is good , but you an me are alone in a Tory stronghold here - much the same as we are in Sussex . Never mind , it`ll soon be mushroom picking season , here on the Forest
