I need a twin and earth around about 2 meters in length. I don't need buy a full drum of it.

Where is the best place to get that from?

I know wilkos used to do that but they've closed down.

In my experience most of the major DIY stores now only sell cable in pre-packed form. Smaller local DIY stores may still sell it by the meter.

TLC sell cable by the meter online, not sure if they also do so in-branch and if-so whether you have any branches in your area.

Several of our local wholesalers sell cable by the meter.

Some smaller hardware shops or smaller electrical wholesalers to both trade and public sell them too, otherwise a friendly local electrician will often cut you a piece.

I once had a fellow wanting a length of flex to attach to the bars on the outside of a first floor window - I refused to sell him it.

I find that both amusing and annoying.

Our main "Big Box" store sells Twin and Earth 2.5 mm cable by the metre, at $3.02 per metre (https://www.bunnings.com.au/olex-2-...ZyQFO1TRQky8jqS1MUnKjJvPzpIbzCBbYPE9zx0GIMn5G )

However, they also sell it in 25 metre rolls. at $91.93 - which is $3.68 per metre. (https://www.bunnings.com.au/olex-2-...YyqQTfeiX4s8wHkLF2H7vcoIHQ9Gi_Eov-6Us7q6KQwq0 )
and
5 metre rolls at $28.12, which is $5.62 per metre (https://www.bunnings.com.au/nexans-olex-2-5mm-x-5m-two-cores-and-earth-connect-cable_p0091547 )

Why would anyone in their "right mind" buy a "roll" when they can buy the length that they require by the metre for considerably less?

Of course, a 100 metre "drum" can be obtained from many "Electrical Suppliers" for less than $200, which is $2.00 per metre.

Hey guys

Thanks so much for your suggestions! I can't believe I didn't even think about DIY shops. I automatically was thinking of the larger stores like BnQ , screwfix etc.

I just called local DIY store.

He sell 2.5mm twin and earth for 1 pound per meter! I might as well get some extra 5 m for a fiver. Can't go wrong!

So about £90 inc tax, seems a bit more expensive than the price here, but IIRC your cable is a different spec to ours with a full-size insulated earth rather than a reduced sized bare earth.

The OP's local DIY store seems a very good price for cut cable.
