I'm gonna be making a fish-tank cabinet, for which i've pretty much sussed how i'm gonna do it using my minimal carpentry skills.

My problem is that i'm not sure what to ask for when i go to the timber-yard (Travis Perkins). I'd like a blemish (crack/damage) free piece of ply that will look nice with a clear finish. Possibly to contrast with the pine framework it will sit in.
What should i ask for, so i don't look like a complete ejit?

I'll have this one please mate (says you pointing at the one you measured)

would avoid travis perkins they are about 40% overpriced

i pay £11.60 for a sheet of exterior ply which gives you one good side

also called G.1.S.[good one side] or W.B.P.[water and boil proof]

interior ply is more expensive but you get 2 good sides generaly

as breezer says look at the boards and choose the one you like the look off ;)

silly question i know, but any idea why you may want to boil it, since it is boil proof?

Because old glues (remember those pots of Scotch Glue simmering on the stove?) would not stand up to hot water... old interior ply furniture would delaminate if you left it out in the rain... when this new stuff was introduced, it was shown off at exhibitions with a sample in a pan of boiling water, to show how superior it was.

Buyers were astonished and impressed.

ah, so thats where the boil proof bit comes from.

i saw on G.F once mrT made a cut out from aleged marine ply, it rained during the night and the cut out was falling apart

thanks for the prompt replys guys :)

Where's recomended to get materials from then? and would they chop it up like B&Q will?
