I am a retired heating engineer My 23 Year old boiler Ideal W2000Just sprung a leak can`t get spares, To all the engineers still fitting which is the best open vent boiler ? and is DS40 OK to clean it, We use to DS9 that did clean. I have been reading reviews all day I am more confused than ever. Good site this wish i had it in my day.
Any Help Appreciated Alex. [/si ze]

The Viessmann compact Open Vent is very good, a one piece of tube Heat Exchanger, 5 year warranty, does not have to have any pump overrun, needs to be pumped though, no gravity circulation these days!, The Baxi Solo/potterton equivalent (Promax) also use a flow swtich to kick them into life.

I powerflush before hanging the new one on the wall, can I rpesume a Gas Safe RGI will be carrying this out?

DH

Oh, and building regs would also have you upgrade the cylinder, controls, trv's etc, your choice ultimately though.

Not true if you are just replacing the boiler. The official guidance does recommend fitting TRVs when a new boiler is installed as the system will be drained down.

**** me, give the guy a break, he's a retired heating engineer, I'm sure he knows how to run a bit of copper pipe and how to fit a flue, if he's retired he probably worked in the days where Flueing and ventilation were very important and there wasn't as many room sealed boiler about, so I'm sure he'll understand the importance , it's only at his house anyway so no requirement for registration, not that I advise DIY gas, but in a case like this it's a no brainer, along as he doesn't start running the pipe work in lead
