Which DVR?

Hello,

I want to purchase 1 CCTV camera and a DVR. I'd like to have the option to add another camera in the future.

What makes of equipment should I be looking at and who should I be buying them from. Maplin have some good offers on.

I'd like to spend about £100 - £200 total? Your thoughts!

Thanks.

Have any of you got any experience with the AVtech and Swan brands as they seem to be in my price range! Are they reliable and what would i get by spending more money?

In particular this just caught my eye.

Also what type of camera should I pair them with? There are so many to choose from? And what else do I need to buy to complete the system?

Thanks.
Wouldn't touch them ourselves, but i know one fella uses them and says he has no problem.

I bought the Avtech 760 4 channel recorder with 250gb hard drive. The only extra you would need if you were connecting it up to a LCD screen is this adapter http://www.isec-solutions.co.uk/P/Avtech-DVR-VGA-adaptor-(349).htm
Otherwise on the back is a monitor bnc connector for connecting it up to a CRT screen.
Next day off i intend to connect it up to my computer but that involves putting another pair of overalls on and getting dirty dragging a cable underneath the floor.
Mine is hooked up to 3 cameras at present and i'm hoping to add a 4th to complete the picture.Everything is done by operating the buttons on the front. There is no remote control. Its basic but it does the job. Some of the features on more expensive machines you possibly won't use.

Great.

What cameras are you using on yours? Is the picture OK?

I bought 3 night vision cameras which have all have infra red LEDS.The best one for the rear of the property which is in complete darkness is the following.Depending on the location you can choose between 3.6mm /6mm lens (read the spec for each) picture quality is brilliant.

Front of the house has 2 different cameras
No.1 is a dome camera under garage soffit on to drive and has again good quality although i have had to change the fitting of it due to infrared halo on the lens which first of all distorted the picture.
No.2 is a small camera on the opposite side of the house again fitted under a soffit but not as clear as the rear camera.
Here are similar models but the ones i have are 3.6 mm lens and higher spec dome camera.

If you are only looking to fit 2 then i would reccomend the one first mentioned. Its good quality and high spec and very reasonable for the money. You won't be dissapointed with the product.i ordered the cameras on the Sunday night and they were with me by Tuesday lunchtime.
