Noticed this dangling down from a loft rafter and thought it was much better to contain it in a choc box or in-line junction box.

I think the existing chock is oversized for the cable. It appears to be 6mm cable.

I notice there are a variety of solutions. Which one is considered most appropriate?

The simplest solution is the choc box type.

Then there is the push fit variety.

Many thanks in advance

Well. it certainly doesn't look like 6mm². More like 1mm²

It's up to you which you choose.

An old fashioned round JB with cables clipped.
Choc-box would be easiest to go round what you have.
Clik not necessary if you don't want to separate again.
Ashley 501 is good.
Ashley 803, good - or the Debox (never used) - MF if you want to hide it away.

Ahh, I was looking at the cable which seemed to have a 6 imprinted on it. That teaches me for going by markings on the cable.

Super - I will just choose one then.

I'd be a bit suspicious of the blue tape on either end of the cable. If it wasn't for that, I have said just go for the chocbox, but it might be better to take it apart and redo it.

Unless you've got a local TLC near you, adding VAT and carriage will bump the price, so this one might be better.

Indeed the cost difference for shipping is always a pain sometimes. Especially if the item is unavailable most places. I have a local screwfix but not a TLC, hence screwfix is significantly cheaper.

What is the grip strength like on those things? I assume they clamp the wires pretty damn tight.

I decided that the cheap choc box style was good enough. The existing chock was certainly oversized for the cable. It was probably for 6mm2 cable.

There was no issues under the blue tape. But I shortened all the cables anyway. Much better hopefully.

Thank you for the advice as always.

Taa, it has two cut outs for screws so I intend to fix it to one of the rafters soon.

Just bear in mind, as pretty much everyone here can attest, there is little so permanent as a temporary job ;)
