hi guys i have 5 mains voltage downlighters in my kitchen but the light given off them seems too soft, could anyone suggest a lamp that provides a brighter more crisp light. My switch is a 250w max dimmer . Thanks

For a brighter light, replace the dimmer with a normal switch.
Dimmers are never at 100%, even when at maximum.

If the light quality is the problem, get rid of the downlighters and fit something actually designed to illuminate a kitchen.

I would suggest you remove dimmer. Then you can use discharge lighting which is available in many colour temperatures.

Discharge includes florescent which is the normal lighting for kitchens as it does give out so much light. My kitchen has 3 x 60W = 180W florescent but living room twice the size has only 80W total.

You say down lighter but not what size and there are some big Recessed Fluorescent lamps

down lighters of type shown will take many different colour temperature tubes.
