A quickie for those who have installed them.

Advice please for the 'best' (reliability and good spread) LED replacements for 50w mains halogens. Ideally similar colour temperature to halogens - not TOO white and certainly not blueish.

Thanks.

I have recently bought TCP 4W GU10 LED lamps from Homebase to replace conventional 35W halogens. The light output is superb - much better / brighter than the halogens and ideal in the bathrooms in which they are used, but may be too 'white' for you if you are looking to match the halogen colour. Colour temperature is 3000k.

They are not cheap at £9.99 for two but with a projected 10 year life I can live with that. (But I've kept the receipt just in case!)

I have tried buying LED GU10 lamps only to find they would not physical fit the lamp holder. Yet in my daughters house they fitted fine. With tungsten not a problem.

So I would advise buying from local shop so if they will not fit you can take them back.

I've been fitting loads of loxa LED gu10s

The 5W LED has an output equivalent to about 35W imo.

They are based not far from me, but they sell through CEF and I'm sure you'll be able to find a local stockist.

Thanks all for the above.

Gywndy, I'd think that 3000k would be about right - maybe even a bit warm (?)

The ones that I have are much whiter and brighter than the B&Q 35W halogens that they have replaced. Ideal for my application. I guess that you'll have to bite the bullet and try one. Good luck!

Correction: Halogen lamps were B&Q not Philips as I originally said.
