There is nothing wrong with them apart from the Reillo burner -also fitted to many other makes - which are suffering from failed oil pumps left right and centre.
One of our installs has had three new oil pumps (supplied and fitted by Grant) in the last 12 months. And we've just received a letter from Bosch apologising for the same problem affecting some of their Reillo equipped models.
We have not so far seen a Grant boiler that has a condensing related fault. In other words, whilst things can go wrong, it is typically burner or pump/controls. The recuperator method of heat recovery is tried and tested and seems to be solid, this was the way the Kidd condenser of 1982 was designed (and was totally mild steel until around 2001) and it has lasted well.
Since the rest of the boiler is a water jacket and a few other bits, relatively passive, that means the body's fine, the ticker could give out at any minute. A recommendation indeed.
My point was that the 'condensing' element of this boiler was not giving problems.
The irony intended in my post was that the burner that was currently causing a reliability problem was common across many makes and types of oil boilers, both condensing and non-condensing.
There is a lot of talk from some on this forum about oil condensers being inherently suspect, but little evidence proffered. Let's talk about known failures of condensers, rather than just allude to unreliability generally. One of the reasons I am here is to learn, there is always more to learn.....
