Hi Guys

I could do with a bit of advice.
I am in the process of renovating an old cottage and I need to know which plasterboard to use.
The building was originally timber which sometime in the 70s had a 4inch thick block wall built around the original building.

The room I intend plasterboarding has timber plank walls at the moment unfortunately over the past 100 or so years there has been so many layers of paper etc put over the planks they have proved impossible to take back to the natural wood, so I intend to plasterboard directly on top of the planks.

So I need to know is foilback or plainback plaster board the best to use directly on top of the planks.

Hope someone can advise has to which is the best to use.

Cheers Jim

Hi jps71,
What a pity that you unable to retain the original features of the walls, but as you say if it can't be done then so be it.With the plasterboard,I would use foil backed (12mm) on any external walls in your room, and plain (9 or 12mm) on the internal ones. The original wooden planks will add good insulation and strength to the walls.

Roughcaster.

Yeah its a real pity I couldn't restore it back to original but in some places there is even fabric glued on the walls.

Thanks for the info Roughcaster its much appreciated :)
