Hello All,
I seem to have a prehistoric central heating system installed in my house. The problem is that I need to replace the pump which is working but has a leak. My question is how do I know what type of pump to replace the one I have? I see on new ones in B&Q that there are 3 power and rpm settings do they have to match exactly with the old one?
Your help is much appreciated.
Thanks

info or pic of old one would help

I had this proble years ago, i just picked the middle one and change the speed. (before this forum was even thought of)

but you may alos have to get new pipe work and fittings (I did)

Thanks for the quick reply
Got this from the pump:
MYSON compact
the table reads like this

n(min-1) P1(W) 1 1/1 (A)
3 1900 112 0.47
2 1400 84 0.35
1 900 60 0.26

Other bits read:
CP53
code 0893
class H
TF 110
IP42

Hope this helps

The same pump is still made but its now called Circulating Pumps as Myson sold it off.

Still called a CP53 !

If its still working then why replace it?

Setting "2" is normal.

Tony

Can I buy this pump from any plumbing merchants or can I replace with something from B & Q cos its around the corner and I'm lazy :D
The two valves either side are leaking and they will not come off for love nore money so easier to replace hole pump and fittings and pipework leading to the diverter valve.

All the pump sin B&Q will be the same length, but the valves can vary. All the quarter-turn pump valves leak if used after a short while in use.

With a hammer, hit the flats of the nut with glansing blows and they will come off.

As doitall says, but if pipework is not securely clipped , support pump in some way so vibration and movement doesnt damage any fittings further alone or worse connection to cylinder also small chisel used with hammer will always get them undone. If you don`t want to risk damaging anything a junior hacksaw to cut a grove into union and prized off with a screw driver so threads on pump are not damaged if you want to re use it.

any UPS 15 - 50 pump will do . Grundfos are one of the best but they are quite expensive in comparision to Wilo and other makes.

Thanks guys
I've bought a Grundfos 65 from B&Q for £65 and fitted it. I've left it on setting 1 not had the guts to try setting 2 or 3 (whats the significance of these settings and is it recomended on a 17 year old system?) but I was also wondering whether these pumps were supposed to run quite Hot (seems even hotter than the copper pipes either side of it). Having said that there are no airlocks any where and every thing seems to be running OK.
I say OK but there was another problem before the leaking pump valves issue, with the diverter valve (danfoss HS3 - 3 port), which may be stuck on the mid position as the hot water also comes on when the heating is on and vice versa. Can I replace with any diverter valve on the market, any reccomendations?
Thanks
