I only use good quality tile adhesive, from Bal or Granfix. Question is, what criteria should I use in deciding whether to use ready-mixed stuff (like Bal Blue Star), or mix-in-the-bucket powder variety?

Excellent reply, pittstop, and I had largely concluded this, but why? What are the technical reasons why "bag" shouldn't be used on walls?

Type of adhesive should be dictated by type of tile and substrate.

eg - a powdered adhesive will be better for large format wall tiles on an uneven wall as the thickness can be increased to even out the wall.

- Powdered mosaic fix will be better for fixing wall mosaics

- White powdered adhesive is a must for marble, limestone etc

Get hold of a copy of the BAL professional fixing guide it explains all the uses for their products.

Technical aspects.

Adhesives and components are used. The cross binding of polymers to create flexibility and bond strengths through the use of plastics and cement.

You can use a bag on a wall but not a bucket on a floor.

Ty
