Well, I've taken forum-people's advice and decided in favour of a Vaillant combi-boiler. I like a powerful shower and I'm wondering whether to go for the 831 Ecotec Plus combi (12 litres per minute) or the more powerful 837 (15 litres per minute). Would the latter be foolish in a small house with only the one bathroom? Many thanks for any advice.

Depends on your incoming mains pressure for one. If you have good pressure than the 837 will give a noticeably better shower.

If you tend to have showers rather than baths then I have never had any complaints about the 831 delivering a good shower.

I think the 837 is slightly overkill for just showers and don't forget that it is about 3" deeper off the wall than the 831 when thinking of installation places. It will also need a larger gas supply from the meter if more than about 9M equivalent length from gas meter ;)

Thanks, Dave. You're a real help. If I get the smaller one, I save about £100, too, so that's good.

Just make sure that which ever one you get the engineer installs, fills, commissions etc exactly to instructions. These are not a fill and fire boiler ;)
